Yoshihiro Shimomura
Born in Tokyo in 1981, he started dancing in 2001 and performed on many different stages. Through these experiences, he acquired various dance techniques: ballet, jazz, street dance, and traditional Japanese dance. In 2004, he joined the "ShibusaShirazu Orchestra" as a Butoh dancer.
He danced on stages in Japan and abroad. He also directed plays, and taught Butoh dance in workshops. Now his performances take place not only on stage, but also in alternative spaces, especially in abandoned buildings, a temple, and the public area. He collaborates with various artists: musicians, filmmakers, flower artists etc.. In 2011 he moved his activities mainly to Berlin. His artistic focus lies in improvisational dance theater in collaboration with artists of different fields. For details of his work and activities see his Facebook Account.
Michiyasu Furutani
Born in Osaka, Japan, Michiyasu Furutani is a choreographer, performer, and dancer whose work and expression grow from Butoh technique and practice. In the process of continual research, he has developed his vocabulary of movement to encompass improvisation and a variety of modern and classical dance techniques forming necessity, possibility, and contingency. Furutani frequently collaborates with diverse art disciplines to broaden the communicational passage and constantly investigate unforeseen modes of expression and movement. His interest is how bodies and objects are adapted to gravity and arrange these matters to destabilize places, supported by physical movements with scientific research.
